College Credit
Students who enroll in any of the five courses will earn three (3) college credits and meet for four and a half hours each day. Credits earned during the summer college program are accepted at Elmira College and normally transferable to other colleges; each institution, however, has its own credit transfer policies. Contact Elmira College’s Office of the Registrar for a copy of your official Elmira College transcript (free of charge). Should you choose to attend Elmira College as a full-time freshman, this process will be automatic.

Course Descriptions
BRAVO!
Enhance all of your performance skills to better communicate your thoughts, hopes, and dreams to an audience. The performance of vocal music, dance, and acting – taught in daily sessions led by caring professionals – is enhanced by one-on-one coaching in your chosen area(s) of performance leading to a public debut. The ultimate goal is not just to “teach you the basics,” but to have you employ all you’ve learned in a complete, clear communication of thought and feeling.

Nanoscale Exploration
This hands-on course aims to introduce you to the exciting world of nanotechnology. Through experiments and demonstrations, you will learn about the basic chemistry and physics that reveal the exciting properties of the nanoworld.

Fire Away!
The transformation of fired clay will be the focus of this experience. Raku firing methods will be the primary firing and glazing method of the course. Raku is an ancient Japanese firing technique for ceramic works that brings out the luster and beauty of the glazes.

Interactive Medicine: Cells Alive!
Students will have the opportunity to grow and work with live cells and experimentally determine what factors can affect them and how. Working in teams with faculty and undergraduate scientists, you will learn the techniques of how to culture cells and how to use biotechnology to identify and characterize cell structures and functions.

Creative Writing Through Mapping Landscapes
Experience your creativity sitting on Mark Twain’s front porch at Quarry Farm, his family’s summer home, where he wrote some of his most famous books. This course will focus on YOU, the young writer, as we traverse both internal and external landscapes, as we read a sampling of some of the very best Modern poetry and prose. There is a walking/exploration/nature component to this class.
