fingerlakes collage Elmira College is located in the stunning Finger Lakes region, only hours from New York City, nestled in the hills of upstate New York. Elmira is a small, safe city of about 35,000 with great coffee shops and eateries.

The Finger Lakes area offers opportunities for skiing, golf, hiking, water sports, bike touring, museums, restaurants, and wineries. We are close to the cities of Ithaca, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, and Buffalo. We're not far from the major urban areas of Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. We think it's the best of all possible worlds.

Points to Know & Places to Go in Elmira  

The Mark Twain Study and the Mark Twain Exhibit in Hamilton Hall 
Our on-campus attractions draw more than 10,000 visitors each year. The exhibit contains many photos and other memorabilia from Twain’s time in Elmira.

The Clemens Performing Arts Center
This recently renovated, 1,600-seat theater is home to resplendent, live entertainment, including professional drama, dance, music, and comedy, as well as local productions and charity events.

This exceptional museum houses a permanent collection of 17th through 19th century European paintings, 19th century American paintings, and sculpture.

First Arena
First Arena is a 4,000 seat multi-purpose facility that hosts a variety of events. Only blocks away from Campus, the arena is the home to the Elmira Jackals hockey team.

The Near Westside Historic District
This residential area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a variety of architectural styles. Walking tours are offered throughout the year.

National Soaring Museum
The largest exhibit of classic and contemporary sailplanes in the world is found in this museum. Harris Hill soaring field is the location of national soaring contests and demonstration rides.

Elmira Pioneers Baseball 
Historic Dunn Field in Elmira's Southside houses the Elmira Pioneers, who have provided the community with competitive professional baseball for many years. Enjoy the summer weather, the game, and the atmosphere of one of America's classic ballparks.

Regional attractions include the Corning Museum of Glass, Watkins Glen International Raceway, the National Warplane Museum, the Finger Lakes wineries, the LPGA Corning Classic golf tournament and a variety of cultural and recreational opportunities.
