Storm Emergency Preparation
Update as of 12:07 p.m. October 30th.
Elmira College day and evening classes will resume Wednesday.
All offices that have not already resumed operations today will be fully functioning by Wednesday morning.
A few buildings sustained minor damage. However, overall the campus weathered the storm wonderfully.
The College extends its gratitude to all of the employees and student Resident Assistants who worked through the storm to keep our community safe. The members of the campus community who remained at the campus demonstrated the cooperation that makes Elmira College a wonderful place.
Dining Services facilities will be open regular hours with full service for students and employees who are on-campus.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the many alumni, friends, and families who were adversely affected by this terrible storm.
Dr. Ronald Champagne
President
Update as of 5:32 p.m. October 29th.
The College will continue to monitor the storm through the night.
We hope that students and staff who remain on campus have taken precautions to prepare for the possibility of a power outage.
If residence halls lose power and it becomes necessary to relocate, students should assemble in the main lounge of the building with the Residence Life Coordinator with any medications, student ID card, flashlights, blankets, sleeping bags and weather appropriate clothing and shoes to move to a building with power.
Dining Services will be serving food this evening in the Campus Center. When walking on campus, please stay alert for debris from wind damage.
College officials have been in frequent contact with regional emergency personnel and we are following their best advice.
National Weather Service has estimated that wind speeds in the immediate area are expected to lessen beginning at 8 p.m. However, gusts will be possible through the night.

Elmira College Community -
We are taking this opportunity to update you on Elmira College’s preparation for the imminent storm that is now adversely affecting the eastern United States.
College officials are taking precautions to anticipate the needs of students through this weather event. Campus emergency leaders will continue to meet throughout the event to assess the status of safety and services at the College.
Classes will be canceled after 2:15 p.m. today and all day and evening on Tuesday. We plan to resume classes on Wednesday morning. Updates on the status of College operations will continue through the week.
Elmira College will be using multiple channels of communication throughout the storm, including emergency messaging on the College’s web site home page -
www.elmira.edu We urge you to sign up for EC Alert text message system at
www.elmira.edu/campus/resources_and_services/security
If power outages make it difficult to update that site, the college will use its Athletics web site at
http://athletics.elmira.edu and its Facebook pages to share information externally.
Students are advised to avoid exposure to the elements during the storm by staying indoors and away from windows.
If residence halls lose power and it becomes necessary to relocate, students should assemble in the main lounge of the building with the Residence Life Coordinator with any medications, student ID card, flashlights, blankets, sleeping bags and weather appropriate clothing and shoes to move to a building with power.
If there is a power outage on campus, first aid medical assistance and counseling will be available on the first floor of the Campus Center.
If students depart campus, they should report to their appropriate Residence Life Coordinators or Resident Assistants their plan to leave. Students should not travel south or east into storm.
