Television Star to Appear in Upcoming Elmira College Theatre Production

Lane Davies, star of daytime television and currently Artistic
Director of the Tennessee Shakespeare Festival, has begun work the
Elmira College Theatre Program’s upcoming production of
Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning Cat on a Hot
Tin Roof. Davies portrays Big Daddy, the blustery patriarch of the
Pollitt family, opposite a strong cast of student actors.
Inimitable as the irrepressible Mason Capwell on the long running
daytime program “Santa Barbara”, Davies has
appeared in numerous television series. Most notable among his
creations of the characters Chancellor Duncan on “3rd
Rock From the Sun”, Dr. Simon Reid on NBC’s
hit “Scrubs”, and the time traveling Tempus
(voted the fans’ favorite villain) on “Lois
and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”. Stage
credits include roles in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night,
Much Ado About Nothing, Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, Hamlet, Henry
V, Julius Caesar, and other classics such as Cyrano de Bergerac,
Inherit the Wind, and Ah Wilderness.
Long the Artistic Director of the Santa Susana Repertory Company in
California, Lane recently assumed similar duties for the Tennessee
Shakespeare Festival. Most recently, he assumed the role of Henry
Higgins in the Lerner and Loewe classic My Fair Lady. While in
Elmira, Lane will visit classes and serve as a coach to student
actors in addition to his acting duties. Elmira College Director of
Theatre John Kelly calls Davies “a renaissance man.
He’s a wonderful actor, a model colleague, and a truly
superb inspiration to young performers. We are indeed fortunate to
have Lane with us!”
Performances of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are scheduled October 29, 30,
and 31 at 8p.m. with a matinee Sunday, November 1 at 2p.m. All
performances are held in the Gibson Theatre on the campus of Elmira
