Marc Dennis to Present at the American Museum of Natural History

May 14th, 2007
Elmira College Associate Professor of Art, Marc Dennis, will be presenting "Insects In Art" at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The presentation will take place at The People Center on Tuesday, May 15, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. His appearance will focus on the use of insects in 17th century art, discussing engravings and watercolors once used as scientific illustrations, as well as using insects and inanimate objects as symbolism. Dennis' talk will incorporate many of his own professional drawings and paintings to illustrate this interesting juxtaposition of science and art.

He is a nationally recognized artist represented by Hirschl and Adler Gallery in New York City . Dennis' work can be seen in many public and private collections, including; The National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC; the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Marc is currently leading a group of Elmira College students in a Term III course in New York City .
