September 14th, 2006

Ashton McLean '06
Elmira College graduate, Ashton McLean '06, was selected early in
the Second Round of the 2006 NLL Entry Draft by the Rochester
Knighthawks. The NLL Draft chooses athletes from the
best young talent and distinguished lacrosse programs throughout
the U.S. and Canada. McLean was selected as the
22nd overall pick during the draft. The 2006 NLL Draft
was held at The Theater Lobby at Madison Square Garden
on Thursday, September 13th, in New York City.
McLean was a standout athlete in both lacrosse and
hockey while a student at Elmira College. In just nine
games played, he finished the 2006 lacrosse season tied for a
team-high in goals scored with 19. McLean also
contributed six assists, for a total of 25 points,
establishing himself as a legitimate scoring threat on the lacrosse
field. An assistant captain and four-year member of
the Men's Varsity Ice Hockey
team, McLean helped lead the team
to the 2006 Division III Final Four . Playing an enormous role on
the team's defense, McLean also tallied five points on
the season. His veteran leadership and talent will be missed during
the upcoming seasons of both programs.
The Rochester Knighthawks selected Mclean as their second pick in
the NLL Draft. Their first selection in the draft, Jack Reid, comes
from the University of Massachussetts, where he played defense and
lead his team to the 2006 Division I National Lacrosse
Championships. Rochester made eight selections in the six-round
draft. The Knighthawks are currently entering their 13th season in
the NLL where they are coming off a second-place finish
in the East Division Finals.
