To the Elmira College Community:
The Pandemic Response Plan was activated on April 30, 2009. As a
continuation of this effort, the Elmira College Emergency Pandemic
Influenza Committee (EPIC) has been working closely with the
Chemung County Public Health Department (CCPHD), the Center of
Disease Control (CDC), and the American College Health Association
(ACHA) by actively monitoring the surveillance of wide spread H1N1
Flu.
As a response to the increase of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) in
Chemung County, EPIC activated the Elmira College Flu Protocol on
October 5, 2009. During the last two weeks, there have been
reported cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) on campus. Health
officials are not testing each case of ILI for H1N1 unless the
illness results in hospitalization. There have been no students or
employees hospitalized, and no confirmed H1N1 cases at Elmira
College. EPIC wants to create a sense of awareness of both the
situation and expectations of students, employees and parents.
Please read and become familiar with the EC Flu Protocol. The
information provides specific guidelines on how Elmira College is
responding to the cases of ILI on our campus. It also provides
guidelines on how we all need to work together to prevent the
spread of ILI on our campus.
