Winter 2013 Pre-Law Lecture Series - From Presenting Petitions (Shangshu) to Boiling River Crab: Political Protest in China, Past and Present
Throughout their long history, Chinese social and political institutions have attempted to balance absolute power with the needs of the people; one of the means of keeping this balance and moderating absolute power has been political protest. In this talk I will explore the history of political protest in China placing some of the events that we have seen in recent years into the larger context of Chinese legal and political history.
